Mariska Hargitay made history at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, becoming the first woman to host the ceremony in 15 years.
The "Law & Order: SVU" star, 62, walked NBC's peacock-blue carpet in a red sequin and fringe gown, matching with her 15-year-old daughter, Amaya Josephine, in a look many read as a tribute to Hargitay's late mother, actress Jayne Mansfield.
Hargitay's husband, actor Peter Hermann, and their sons August, 19, and Andrew, 13, joined the family for a rare full appearance together on the carpet.
The hosting gig capped an emotional stretch for Hargitay, who picked up two Emmys the night before at the Creative Arts ceremony for "My Mom Jayne," her documentary exploring her mother's life and her own journey toward healing after childhood trauma. Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of the show, Hargitay called hosting the same year she earned nominations "more extraordinary than I have the words to express."
Hargitay is also known for founding the Joyful Heart Foundation, a nonprofit supporting survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse - work rooted in the kind of grace and restoration that continues to resonate with faith communities who champion survivors' healing.
The 78th Emmy Awards aired live on NBC and streamed on Peacock at 8 p.m. ET.
