Sarah Jakes Roberts' oldest son, Malachi, is opening up about the terrifying moment he learned that his mother had fractured her neck-and how he immediately dropped everything to be beside the woman he calls his "superwoman."
Appearing during the Season 8 premiere of The Tamron Hall Show, the 23-year-old recalled receiving news of his mother's frightening trampoline accident while he was in New York. Realizing the seriousness of her injuries, Malachi quickly returned home to support her during the painful early stages of her recovery.
The emotional moment brought Sarah's remarkable story full circle. She became pregnant as a young teenager and raised Malachi while navigating public judgment, personal struggles and life as the daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes. Now, the child who accompanied her through some of her most challenging years had become the grown man rushing home to protect her.
Malachi described his mother as a "superwoman," praising her resilience as she balances motherhood, marriage, ministry and her responsibilities as co-senior pastor of The Potter's House.
Sarah suffered the serious injury in April while playing with her daughter Ella on a backyard trampoline. She said she landed on her neck and immediately heard several pops. After being taken to two hospitals and undergoing multiple scans, doctors discovered that she had fractured her neck, herniated discs and endangered areas of her spine.
The outcome could have been tragically different. Sarah later revealed that a slightly different injury location might have left her paralyzed. Instead, she wore a neck brace and began a difficult recovery surrounded by her husband, Touré Roberts, her children and her parents.
Her appearance on Tamron Hall became a family affair, with Touré, Malachi, Bishop T.D. Jakes and Serita Jakes joining her for an emotional conversation about fear, faith and the relatives who stepped forward when she needed them most.
For longtime followers of Sarah's journey, Malachi's response was especially touching. The son she welcomed during one of the most vulnerable seasons of her life had become her protector during another.
