Susan Saint James' cause of death has been confirmed. Her death certificate lists metastatic pancreatic cancer as the primary cause, according to a PEOPLE report published Thursday, Nov. 5.

The document states the Kate & Allie and McMillan & Wife star died months after her diagnosis. That matches what her representative told PEOPLE when her death was first announced. Saint James died Monday, Oct. 26, at 80.

Metastatic cancer, often called stage 4, means the disease has spread from where it began to other parts of the body.

Saint James won an Emmy in 1969 for The Name of the Game and earned eight nominations over her career. She starred opposite Rock Hudson in McMillan & Wife, then joined Jane Curtin in Kate & Allie in 1984. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008 and was a longtime supporter of Special Olympics, according to Variety.

In their statement, her family remembered her as generous with her time and energy, and quick to support anyone who was struggling.

She is survived by her husband, former NBC executive Dick Ebersol, four children and seven grandchildren.

As fans continue to remember an actress known for her kindness, JubileeCast keeps her loved ones in prayer.
