Mark Wahlberg, 55, is a devout Catholic who has spoken openly about prayer for years, and he reflected on his faith again in a September interview with The Christian Post.
Discussing his film By Any Means, a thriller loosely inspired by the 1966 murder of civil rights leader Vernon Dahmer, Wahlberg said the Christian call to forgive stays with him even when a story makes revenge feel satisfying. "You can't be forgiven unless you forgive," he said.
He said he begins each day on his hands and knees thanking God, though a ringing phone or a bad moment can quickly test his patience. He added that he is still working on being patient with his children and that judgment is not something people are meant to practice.
Wahlberg also said he doesn't want his faith to dictate his artistic choices, and he joked that he hopes God is a movie fan. Still, he described his mission in life as continuing to spread the Word.
None of this is new for him. Around the 2025 release of Flight Risk, in which he plays a villain, he told The Christian Post that "everything derives" from his prayer life and his pursuit of a relationship with God. In 2022, while promoting Father Stu, he said: "Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future."
By Any Means opened in theaters Sept. 4.
